Dr. Sharma
Optometrist
Dr. Suraj Sharma was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta where he attended University of Alberta to earn his Bachelor of Science degree. He later completed his Doctorate of Optometry with Honors from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Sharma completed his studies via clinical rotations which included ocular disease, pediatrics, specialty contact lens fitting, primary care, and referral care in a tertiary medical center. He is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, The Alberta Optometric Association and Canadian Optometric Association.
Dr. Poon
Oxford & Terwillegar Optometrist
Dr. Tom-Harley Poon grew up in Edmonton and was born into a large, Chinese-Canadian family. His hyphenated first name is a tribute to his great-grandfather, Tom, and his grandfather, Harley. Family and tradition is important to Dr. Poon that is why he has named both of his son’s in a similar manner. Dr. Poon received his undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta and his Doctor of Optometry at The New England College of Optometry in Boston. Upon graduation in 2008, the school honoured him with the F. Dow Smith Award, which is presented to students that demonstrate exceptional leadership potential. This award recognized his hard work to create and establish the Canadian club at the school which addresses student issues and interests specific to Canadians.
Dr. Bain
Millwoods Optometrist
Dr. Colin Bain was born and raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta. He attended both Grande Prairie Regional College and the University of Alberta prior to receiving his Doctor of Optometry with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2014. Dr. Bain’s clinical training included an externship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas where he gained extensive knowledge of the management of diabetic retinopathy, among various other ocular pathologies. Dr. Bain is committed to providing eye care internationally, completing an externship at Lion’s Sight First Eye Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, and two volunteer trips in Peru and Romania, with more planned in the future. Dr. Bain is a member of both the Alberta Association of Optometrists, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Jayachandran
Leduc Optometrist
Dr. Kavitha Jayachandran (Dr. Jaya to her patients) was born and raised in Edmonton, AB. She received her Bachelors of Science with distinction in 2007 from the University of Alberta. She then attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University with a Presidential Scholarship. She completed her Doctorate in Optometry with academic honors in 2011. During her time in Optometry school, Dr. Jaya became a member of the prestigious Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society and the Golden Key International Honors Society. She also completed training as an intern with various specialties including contact lens, refractive surgery consultations and post operative management, ocular disease and low vision, at well renowned facilities such as the Newington VA hospital, South Carolina VA hospital, Eye Doctors of Washington and the Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA. She completed an advanced certification in pediatrics as well, which helped her gain valuable experience in vision therapy, binocular vision, infant vision and special populations.
During her schooling she was honored to take part in a mission trip to provide eye care to the underprivileged villages in Belize. More recently in 2017, she had the pleasure of participating in a volunteer trip to Malawi, Africa to provide eye care to underserved schools and to teach their pioneer Optometry graduating class. She is an active member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists and Canadian Association of Optometrists. In her spare time, Dr. Jaya loves to spend time with her family and friends, travel, read and practice yoga.
Dr. La
Optometrist
Dr. Maggie La was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She received her Bachelor of Science degree with Distinction from the University of Alberta. With a passion for healthcare, she then went on to continue her education in Ontario, obtaining her Doctor of Optometry with Honours from the University of Waterloo. Dr. La is also a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Her clinical training included a placement at the Eye Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City where she gained invaluable experience in managing ocular diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration.
Dr. La looks forward to help enhance vision and eye health while building lifelong relationships with her patients.
Dr. Ubhi
Dr. Ubhi received her Doctor of Optometry with honors from the University of Waterloo in 2015 and completed a residency in Binocular Vision and Vision Rehabilitation at Nova Southeastern University in 2016. During her residency, she worked closely with patients who had binocular vision dysfunctions, strabismus, amblyopia, autism, special needs, and acquired brain injuries. Dr. Ubhi has furthered her expertise and knowledge in binocular vision by obtaining Fellowships with the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD).
Dr. Ubhi is excited to bring her knowledge of binocular vision to Edmonton, after spending 6 years of practicing in Ontario. While there, she had the privilege of working within two multidisciplinary concussion clinics and being part of a multidisciplinary integrative concussion network. In addition to binocular vision and concussion rehabilitation, Dr. Ubhi has a special interest in pediatrics, myopia management, and dry eye management. Dr. Ubhi is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists, American Academy of Optometry, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and Vision Therapy Canada.
Dr. Baba
Optometrist
Dr. Victoria Baba grew up in New Brunswick, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of New Brunswick. She received her Doctor of Optometry with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. During her schooling she completed internships and clinical rotations across Canada and the United States including rotations in ocular disease, contact lenses, and paediatrics. She is also a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Baba is committed to educating patients about their vision and eye health and looks forward to building long term relationships with her patients.
Dr Hans
Optometrist
Raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Navneet Hans attended MacEwan University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Dr. Hans then went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry with Honours from the Illinois College of Optometry. During her clinical rotations across Canada and the United States, she’s gained clinical experience in Ocular Surface Disease, Glaucoma, Retinal Pathology, and Pediatrics. Dr. Hans is passionate about providing quality eye care to all her patients and enjoys making a difference in their lives, all while building lifelong relationships. During her free time, she enjoys travelling, practicing yoga, and trying new local restaurants.
Dr R. Poon
Optometrist
Dr. Randy Poon grew up in Edmonton, AB and obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta. He then attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, PA and had clinical rotations in Grundy, VA, Philadelphia, PA and Savannah, GA in the United States. Upon obtaining his Doctorate of Optometry, he also received the Conforma Laboratories Award, given to students who demonstrate clinical excellence in contact lens design and application of fitting criteria.
Dr. R Poon enjoys working on cars in his free time and building strong relationships with all of his patients.
Dr. R. Kohli
Optometrist
Dr. Rohan Kohli was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He attended MacEwan University to earn his Bachelor of Science degree. He then completed his Doctorate of Optometry with clinical honours from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his clinical rotations gaining knowledge in ocular disease, contact lens fittings, primary care, dry eye disease, emergency eye care, and pediatrics. Dr. Kohli’s clinical training included an externship at the White River Junction Veterans Affair hospital in Vermont, where he gained extensive knowledge of many common and rare ocular pathologies in a rural setting. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, the Alberta Optometric Association, and the Canadian Optometric Association.
Dr. Kohli is committed to providing his patients with the best eyecare possible and helping patients see to the best of their ability.
In his free time, Dr. Kohli enjoys hiking, travelling, photography, and spending time with family and friends.
Angelene Jacobsen
Medical Aesthetician
Angelene took her laser and medical aesthetics course from the European Institute of Esthetics in 2011. As a Certified Laser Technician and Clinical Assistant, she is certified to operate many different devices used for cosmetic rejuvenation of the skin. Through further education, the effect of light-based therapy on dry eye disease is now a new part of her repertoire of expertise. In depth consultations and her extensive background in the industry allows Angelene to provide excellent patient care in the area of dry eye disease and beyond.
